What is VALUE?

Value Scale

1.Why is value so important in art?
Value is important in art because it shows what shape has been drawn and it's dimension. In a sphere the value is gradual appose to a rectangle, where it sharply changes.

2.How does the element of value relate to the element of texture?
Value shows was texture a shape has.

3.List 5 ways of rendering (ie.drawing) value.
5 ways of rendering value are:
-cross hatching
-shading
-scribble hatching
-stippling
-

4.Describe what we mean by,"building value" in a drawing.
"Building value" is when the object you're shading gradually becomes darker.

5.How do we best see value?
We best see value when a light is on one side of the object, it emphasizes where the darkness is on the object.

ArtTalk textbook

1.How does the author define "line"?
A line is a basic element of art, it is a mark that spans a distance between two points. Lines can be drawn as vertical, horizontal, diagonal, zigzag, curved, straight etc. Also, they can be short or long, wide or skinny, and rough or smooth.

2.What is required to make a line?
A writing utensile. Decide what type of line you wish to draw, if straight then a ruler is required.

3.What is "dimension"?
Dimension is the lenth, height, width, depth, or diameter of something.

4.List many ways that artists create line.
An artist uses different techniques to create lines that best fit their art work. Using a fluent motion appose to a rapid jagged one with create completly different lines.

5.Define an "outline" and an "implied" line,
An outline is is the edge of an object created. An implied line is a fluent line with 'gaps' in between.

Elements of art are the basic essencials an artist needs to complete their artwork, such as; a line, shape, form, texture, and shading.
A line and a shape are related because when you connect a line to itself it becomes a shape.
Shape and form are related because a form is a 3 dimentinal shape.

The lines above are examples of implied lines. An implied line is a line that continues it's path across the paper but isn't complete(gaps in the middle).
The line above is an example of a real line. A real line is a line that is fluent from start to finish without any gaps in the middle.

Everything is made up of an organic or geometric shape. Overall most geometric shapes are mechanic and very precise. Which tend to be human made but there are a few exceptions of geometric shapes in nature. An example is a bumble bee's beehive, every shape in a beehive is very precise therefore geometric. An example of an organic shape is a lake. A lake's edges are not exact which creates an organic shape.

In class on Monday we discussed a lot of topics. With my elbow partner I discussed what a language is and what a language is made up of. A language is a form of communication used to converse, describe and discus things with others. A language consists of a variety of things such as; hand actions, facial expressions, and lines. There are many forms of communication such as verbal speaking and writing but communication goes further than that. Music, cooking and art are all ways of communicating as well.

The upper line represents a happy line. The line is very swirly and it flows. It reminds me of waves which symbolize a happy and calming place in my opinion.

The lower line represents an angry line. It represents an angry line because it's jagged and jumbled up. The line increases in intensity and has a lot of ups and downs.I often feel very jumbled up when I'm angry as the line demonstrates.
